What's a folk song?
"A folk song is usually seen as the authentic expression of a way of life now, past or about to disappear (or in some cases, to be preserved or somehow revived)."
I like this concept of creating a piece of art that focuses on how the "current" way of life, as in when the song is written, is about to disappear. The song being used to continue on a tradition. Making a conscious effort in the now to ensure that the future confronts and experiences something from its past. Art as a means of keeping the blood pumping through the veins of an era. A minor time travel/history book created via a few simple chords and a stream of carefully chosen words

Interesting definition of folk song. I always thought it was "people with long hair whining about shit, and also maybe singing about birds, horses, or shoes."
Your definition makes a lot more sense though, because Woody Guthrie didn't have long hair.
